“My name is Chris and I’m, um, a PR professional.”

Public Relations pros have one of the most misunderstood professions.

Unless you’re in LA, you’re probably a little ashamed to tell people you do PR. Reporters hate us cause we bombard them with calls and spam their Inboxes. Our clients aren’t satisfied with the New York Times; they should have also been in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fortune and what’s this TechCrunch? Hell, my family and friends are still confused as to whether I do marketing, advertising or journalism.

Well, to all of them, I’m coming out.

I’m proud to work in PR. We help people learn about goods and services they might not otherwise know about. That’s it. But to get those hits means we have to know the industry, follow the reporters, map the competitive landscape and then plot a good strategy.

Easier said than done? Maybe, but I’m gonna try. This here blog is gonna be my place to discuss all things PR in the era of new media.

My name is Chris and I’m a GD PR professional.

  6. The only people who understand what’s involved in working in PR are other PR professionals. For everyone else it’s like trying to translate a foreign language.

I’m in-house PR, so I know my industry well. I know which journalists cover topics that affect my organization. I have good working relationships with media and other outlets. I flatter myself that I help inform our customers of our services and programs.

Unfortunately, the method by which I do that is only comprehensible to others who join in the madness every day.

I am tired of the backlash on the profession in which I take pride.

My name is Sandra and I’m a GD PR professional.
